Anarchist Dinner: Solidarity with Koukaki
In 2020, three years of life of the Koukaki Squat Community came to an end. Since 2017 it had set up a competitive example of communal life in the center of Athens. Through horizontal procedures, collective work and persistence, it set up open and social projects of communal housing, public bath and laundry, clothes sharing, spaces for public events and a multilingual library. Operating in an area which has been transforming from residential neighborhood to first-class tourist resort, the Koukaki Squat Community raised an embankment against the repressive and economic policies of the state and the bosses, against fascism, racism, and patriarchy. A living heart of resistance, it also actively supported and connected with other struggles, political projects and public assemblies. In the end, people had fought bravely against a big police operation to evict them, but were not able to defend their three houses. The fierce defense was a moment of inspiration beyond borders, also for Berlin’s housing and community struggles.
As a consequence, several people of the Koukaki Squats face strong repression. In a first trial they were sentenced to each 6,5 years of prison. The appeal court will take place soon and it is necessary to build a solidarity movement.
In the collective atmosphere of Anarchist Dinner (inc. mediterranean meze) we will talk about the events and the repression and also we will have a call with two of the accused. The raised money will be used to pay the repression costs of the comrades.
