Bei einer Explosion am 31.10.2024 in einer Wohnung in Ambelokipi, Athen, fiel der anarchistische Gefährte Kyriakos Xymitiris. Er starb im Kampf für die soziale und Klassenbefreiung. Die anarchistische Gefährtin Marianna M., die sich ebenfalls in der Wohnung befand, wurde schwer verletzt und in das Krankenhaus Evangelismos gebracht, wo sie zwei Wochen lang behandelt wurde.

Während der Wochen, die Marianna M. im Krankenhaus und auf der Intensivstation lag, wurde sie 24/7 von Bullen der Anti-Terror-Einheit bewacht. Das führte, selbst in ihren intimsten Momenten, zu ständigen Blicken und Kommentaren. So wurde Marianna bereits zu einem Zeitpunkt, an dem sie noch nicht verhaftet worden war, ihrer Privatsphäre und ihres Rechts beraubt, als Patientin behandelt zu werden. Während sie noch bewusstlos auf der Intensivstation lag und dadurch ohne ihre Zustimmung, führten die Anti-Terror-Bullen eine Blutprobe für eine DNA-Analyse sowie die Entnahme von Fingerabdrücken durch. Die Staatsanwältin der Anti-Terror-Einheit zögerte nicht, in ihre medizinische Behandlung einzugreifen. Sie versuchte, die Gefährtin unter Druck zu setzen, um eine Aussage zu erzwingen, obwohl Mariannas physischer und psychischer Zustand dies eindeutig nicht zuließ.

Nur einen Tag nach Mariannas zweiter Operation (15.11.), und mit genähten als auch offenen Wunden im Gesicht, wurde ihr Aufenthalt im Krankenhaus unterbrochen und sie wurde in das Frauengefängnis von Korydallos verlegt. Sie konnte weder gehen noch sich vollständig auf den Beinen halten. Ihr war schwindlig und sie hatte Schmerzen von der Narkose und der Operation, der sie sich am Vortag unterziehen musste. Nur zur Entfernung der Fäden wurde sie nach einer Woche noch einmal kurz ins Krankenhaus gebracht.

In dieser Situation genehmigte die Leitung des Evangelismos-Krankenhauses ihre Entlassung auf Anordnung der 22. offiziellen Staatsanwältin der Anti-Terror-Einheit. Im Knast von Korydallos gibt es weder eine Versorgung durch ein Krankenhaus noch irgendeinen Zugang zu einer angemessenen Behandlung. Die notwendige medizinische Versorgung und die Einnahme von Medikamenten werden Marianna versagt, obwohl sie noch nicht vollständig genesen ist.

Aktuelle Entwicklungen

Bis heute dauert die Folter an der verwundeten Gefährtin Marianna im Gefängnis von Korydallos an. Von Anfang an erhielt sie weder die notwendigen Antibiotika, Schmerzmittel, Verbände noch andere benötigte Sanitätsartikel. Sie ist gezwungen, in einer schmutzigen Zelle voller Kakerlaken zu leben, in der keine hygienischen Bedingungen herrschen. Zusammen mit den anderen Angeklagten, wurde ihr, eineinhalb Monate nach ihrer Verhaftung, in Korydallos, erneut ihre DNA von der Anti-Terror-Einheit entnommen. Bis heute – drei Monate später – sind die weiteren diagnostischen Tests (vor allem die CT-Untersuchung), die sowohl von externen Ärzt:innen als auch von den Ärzt:innen des Evangelismos-Krankenhauses angefordert wurden, nicht durchgeführt bzw. nicht einmal eingeleitet worden. Die CT-Untersuchung, aufgrund eines Hämatoms im Gehirn, das nach wie vor Schwindel und weitere Risiken für neurologische Probleme verursacht, ist von entscheidender Bedeutung. Stattdessen teilte ihr der Gefängnisarzt mit, dass sie nur dann eine Untersuchung erhalten könne, wenn sie einen epileptischen Anfall erleiden würde.

In ihrem Kniegelenk hat sich außerdem eine Flüssigkeit angesammelt, die es ihr unmöglich macht, es richtig zu beugen, zu gehen oder ohne Stütze zu stehen. Marianna hat Nervenschäden erlitten, wodurch neurologische Probleme auftreten, die zu Funktionsstörungen in einem Auge führen. Dies ist immer noch nicht verheilt. Da sie es nicht richtig schließen kann, ist sie einer ständigen Gefahr von Infektionen ausgesetzt. Sie hatte bereits Infektionen an ihrem Auge sowie an den Nähten im Bereich des Thorax.

In dieser kritischen Situation trafen ihre medizinischen Unterlagen aus dem Krankenhaus erst 2,5 Monate später ein. Obwohl sie jetzt ein CT für ihr Knie bekommen hat, erfährt sie weder eine angemessene oder konsequente medizinische Diagnose, noch eine regelmäßige Behandlung sowie keinen Zugang zu allen CT-Scans. Diese werden benötigt, da die Verantwortlichen die neurologischen Verletzungen nur als ästhetische Probleme betrachten. Ihre tägliche Pflege und Unterstützung wird von ihrer Mitgefangenen und Gefährtin Dimitra Z. geleistet, sowie durch die Versuche ihrer Familie, externe Ärzt:innen in das Gefängnis zu holen.

Die Verwaltung des Frauengefängnisses von Korydallos, die 22. Staatsanwältin und das Evangelismos-Krankenhaus mit dem Leiter Grigoropoulos Anastasios und seinem Stellvertreter Bati Veniamin, tragen die volle Verantwortung für die ernsthafte Gefährdung der Gesundheit sowie die unvollständige Genesung unserer verletzten Gefährtin Marianna M.

All dies erinnert uns an die zahllosen Morde und Folterungen von Gefangenen aufgrund mangelnder medizinischer Versorgung. An die zahllosen Migrant:innen, die jeden Tag in Haftanstalten und auf Bullenstationen weltweit ermordet und gefoltert werden. Einmal mehr wird klar, dass der Staatsapparat sich an all jenen rächt, die sich ihm widersetzen, Widerstand leisten und sein Macht- und Gewaltmonopol herausfordern.

Aber wir werden auch an die zahlreichen Kämpfe und Aufstände erinnert, die von Gefangenen und Inhaftierten in Gefängnissen und Haftanstalten auf der ganzen Welt geführt wurden – Menschen, die ihr Leben gaben, um ihre Rechte und die notwendige Versorgung innerhalb und außerhalb der Zellen der Demokratie einzufordern.

Es ist notwendig, gegen diese Behandlung unserer Gefährtin Marianna und der aller Gefangenen, die Ähnlichem ausgesetzt werden, vorzugehen. Solche Ausübungen der Macht des Staates und des Kapitals gegen die Gefangenen sind unbestreitbar eine Form der Folter. Was auch immer mit Marianna geschieht, wird Konsequenzen haben, und es wird nicht unbeantwortet bleiben.

Update on the Health Condition of Marianna M.

On 31/10/2024, after an explosion in an apartment in Ampelokipi, Athens, the anarchist comrade Kyriakos Xymitiris fell in the battle for social and class liberation, and the anarchist comrade Marianna M., who was also in the apartment, was severely injured and hospitalized for two weeks at Evagelismos Hospital.

During the weeks Marianna M. remained hospitalized, she was guarded 24/7 by anti-terrorist cops in the ICU, resulting in constant stares and comments even during her most intimate moments. This deprived Marianna of her privacy and her right to be treated as a patient at a time when she had not yet been arrested. While still unconscious, the anti-terrorist cops ordered a blood sample to be taken for DNA analysis and fingerprints, without her consent. The interrogator from the anti-terrorist unit did not hesitate to intervene in her medical treatment, attempting to pressure the comrade into giving a testimony, despite her physical and psychological condition clearly not permitting it.

Just one day after her second operation (15/11) and while still wounded, with stitches and open wounds on her face, her hospitalization was interrupted, and she was taken to the women’s prison of Korydallos. The comrade could not walk or fully support herself, feeling dizzy and in pain from the anesthesia and surgery she had undergone the day before. One week after arriving in Korydallos she was brought to the hospital but only to remove her stitches.

In this situation, the management of Evagelismos Hospital approved her discharge under the order of the 22nd Formal Interrogator of the anti-terrorist unit. The comrade was transported to a prison without any hospital care or appropriate treatment. She was deprived of medical care and medications despite not being fully recovered.

Latest Developments

The torture of the wounded comrade Marianna continues in Korydallos prison to this day. From the first days, she was not given the necessary antibiotics, painkillers, gauses, or other supplies she needed. She was forced to stay in a dirty cell, full of cockroaches, with no hygienic or living conditions. A month and a half later, she, along with the rest of the accused, was forced to undergo mandatory DNA collection by the anti-terrorist unit inside the prison. To this day—three months later—the further diagnostic tests (most importantly the CT scan) requested by both external doctors and the doctors from Evagelismos Hospital have not been conducted or even initiated. The CT scan is critical due to a brain hematoma that still causes dizziness and further risks of neurological issues. Instead, the prison doctor told her that she would only be able to receive a scan if she suffered an epileptic crisis.

Additionally, a fluid has built up in her knee joint, resulting in her inability to bend it properly, walk, or stand without support. Marianna has suffered nerve damage, and neurological issues have arisen, leading to malfunction in her eye. Her eye is still not healed, putting her at constant risk of continuous infections due to her inability to close it properly and her lack of access to necessary medical care. She already experienced an eye infection and an infection at the stitches on her chest.

In this critical situation, her medical files from the hospital arrived only 2,5 months later, and, though she made the CT for her knee now, she still does not have an appropriate or consistent medical diagnosis, regular treatment, or access to all the CT scans she needs, since the Responsibles consideres the neurologic injuries as asthetic problems only. Her daily care and assistance are provided by her fellow inmate and comrade Dimitra Z., as well as through the attempts of her family members to bring external doctors into the prison.

The administration of the women’s prison of Korydallos, the 22nd interrogator, and Evagelismos Hospital, with the chief Grigoropoulos Anastasios and the deputy Bati Veniamin, are fully accountable for the serious risks to the health and incomplete recovery of the injured comrade Marianna M.

All of this reminds us of the countless murders and tortures of prisoners due to the lack of medical care, the countless migrants murdered and tortured every day in detention centers and police stations worldwide. It is clear once again that the state apparatus seeks to take revenge on all those who resist and challenge its monopoly on power and its violence.

But we are also reminded of the numerous struggles and uprisings carried out by prisoners and detainees inside prisons and detention centers all around the globe – individuals who gave their lives to reclaim their rights and necessary care inside and outside the cells of democracy.

It is crucial to take action against this treatment of comrade Marianna and all those imprisoned who are subjected to such tortures. Such impositions by the state’s and capital’s power are undeniably a form of torture. Whatever happens to Marianna will have consequences, and it won’t go unanswered.
